Hello Schalmont Middle School Families,
Our Middle School students will participate in the Grades 3-8 New York State assessments beginning at the end of April. Included below is the testing schedule, along with important information regarding the state testing program.
2026 State Testing Schedule – Grades 5-8
- Grades 5-8 ELA – April 21 & 22 (Make Ups April 23 & 24)
- Grades 5 & 8 Science – April 28 (Make Ups April 29 & 30)
- Grades 5-8 Math – May 5 & 6 (Make Ups May 7 & 8)
Purpose of NYS Testing
- Measures how well students are meeting state learning standards.
- Helps teachers adjust instruction and provide support where needed.
Why It Matters for Students
- Shows strengths and areas for improvement,t and helps set academic goals.
- Builds test-taking skills for future exams in middle school and high school.
Why It Matters for Families
- Gives insight into your child’s progress and helps identify learning gaps early.
- Supports decisions about academic support.
How Families Can Help
- Encourage a positive attitude; Remind them to do their best.
- Make sure your child gets good sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
General Information
- Testing is computer-based; students should fully charge their Chromebooks the night before.
- Students who finish early should read quietly; no electronic devices are allowed.
