Thanks to our Rotterdam Police Department, Jefferson 1st graders will enjoy safer rides as they head out on their bicycles and scooters this summer!
Officer Andrew D’Aurizio, Officer Sean Simmons, and Lieutenant Jeffrey Collins spent Tuesday morning at Jefferson Elementary handing out free helmets to all 1st graders. They run the program each spring thanks to the Rotterdam PBA, who purchases the helmets to give to students.
On Tuesday, officers helped students choose from nearly a dozen different helmet colors and styles, not always an easy decision. They then took time to ensure each helmet fit each student, while reminding them how important it is to wear them. It was often difficult to tell what 1st graders enjoyed more, their new helmets or talking to Officers D’Aurizio and Simmons!
Our endless thanks to the Rotterdam Police Department for keeping our community’s children safe and taking time to create such wonderful bonds with them!
