Arrival

School begins each day at 8:45 a.m. Children riding the bus enter the building through the Secondary Office entrance facing Princetown Road. Children dropped off enter the building at the Primary Office entrance on Ford Avenue. Please do not drop off students before 8:45 a.m. as no supervision is available.

Students who arrive after 8:50 a.m. are tardy and must report to the Primary Office, located at the Ford Avenue entrance. A parent or guardian must escort their tardy child into the building and sign them in. Please help your child get off to a good start each school day by ensuring they are at school on time.

Dismissal

Students board buses at the end of the day at 3:00 p.m. If you wish to pick up your child, please enter through the Primary School Office entrance and pick up your child in the cafeteria at 3:00 p.m. For the safety of our students, photo identification will be required whenever children are picked up.

If you need to pick up your child during the school day, please send a note in with your child or call the main office by noon so we have time to notify their teacher. Please sign out your children in the Primary School Office. Photo identification will be required.

Please do not park along the school sidewalk during pick up and drop off. This is a fire lane and should be kept clear of vehicles.

Attendance

Daily attendance is important to your child’s success. Please try to make non-emergency dental and medical appointments for students after hours when possible.

If your child will be absent or late for school, please call 518-355-1342, ext. 5080 with your child’s name, grade and reason for absence. If we do not receive a phone call, Schalmont will send an automated phone call to verify the absence.

When your child returns to school, please send in a written excuse with the absence dates, reason for absence, and signature of a parent or guardian.

Breakfast & Lunch

Jefferson Elementary offers a nutritious breakfast for students that includes hot and cold foods, juice and milk. Breakfast is served from 8:20 to 8:50 a.m.

Lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:25 p.m. Monthly menus are available on our Food Services webpage, as is information about meal pricing and pre-paying for meals.

School Nurse

Whenever you have a question about your child’s health, please contact the Health Office and our school nurse will be happy to help you. The Health Office website has contact information and answers to common questions.

Visitors to the School

Visitors to Jefferson Elementary during the school day should first report to their child’s Main Office to sign in and receive a visitor’s badge. Identification is required. Main Office staff will be happy to help direct you. When leaving, please return to the office to sign out.

Visitors to the school outside the school day, for events such as Parent-Teacher Conferences, do not have to sign in at main offices.

Visitors are expected to follow the same Code of Conduct as our students when they are on school property.

School Pledge

As members of this school, we promise to care about each other. We will help each other whenever we can. We promise to make our school a play of joy, discovery, peace and respect. Above all, we will always try to never hurt anyone on the inside or the outside.
