The Board of Education met November 23 for its regular meeting. Here is a summary.
- Superintendent Dr. Thomas Reardon reviewed the district’s two cases of COVID-19 from the previous week, thanking students, faculty and staff for their diligence in following precautions that helped minimize potential exposure. Board members said it was gratifying to hear the Department of Health was impressed by the district’s preventative measures and thanked administrators for personally calling Jefferson Elementary School families who had children who needed to quarantine.
- Dr. Reardon noted that the district at this time plans to be open after the Thanksgiving Recess and will keep the community informed if anything changes. Dr. Reardon said New York State has not told school districts of any unilateral plan to close schools.
- Tara Benedetto was appointed as a long-term substitute at Jefferson Elementary School. Ms. Benedetto will be the Grade 3 Remote Teacher, filling a leave of absence.
- The Board of Education interviewed candidates who expressed an interest in filling the remainder of former Board member Michael Pasquarella’s term, who resigned from the Board in October. The district will announce who will take the seat as soon as a decision is made.
The next Board of Education meeting will be Monday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. We will share details about how the public can join virtually closer to the meeting date.
