BOE Meeting Summary

The Board of Education met last night for its regular meeting. Here is a summary.

  • Superintendent Dr. Thomas Reardon gave an update on the 2026-2027 school budget. Once again, next year’s budget preserves all student programs and supports with no cuts to faculty or staff.
    • The draft budget includes a 1.95% tax levy increase, largely needed to help address rising health insurance costs, a challenge facing most districts. While the NYS Tax Cap allows a 4.2% increase, Dr. Reardon said a 1.95% increase both keeps Schalmont financially strong and continues all opportunities for our students.
    • The Board is expected to adopt the budget at its April meeting. The community vote will take place Tuesday, May 19. Dr. Reardon’s presentation is available here.
  • The High School Concert Choir helped Schalmont celebrate Music in our Schools Month with a wonderful performance during the Board meeting. Great job, Sabres!
  • The Board of Education accepted letters of retirement for two Schalmont teachers, Dan Hanley and Leea Mulone. Here is what Dr. Reardon wrote about each. Congratulations!
    • “After serving Schalmont as a High School Special Education teacher for 28 years, Dan Hanley will be taking the next step in his life to enjoy fishing and the outdoors whenever sees fit. Dan has been a champion and advocate for students, and has served Schalmont faithfully. Please wish him the best as he embarks on his next chapter.”
    • “Leea Mulone has served Schalmont for 22 years, working as both an elementary teacher and an Academic Intervention Services provider at Jefferson Elementary School. Leea’s calm, caring demeanor has served our students well. While we are sad to see her depart, she has certainly earned her next chapter. Congratulations, Leea!”

The next Board of Education meeting will be Monday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m.
