Schalmont High School students learned what it’s like working in the science field thanks to two visiting scientists from Regeneron last week!
Hannah Bowen and Jessie Mastropietro visited with Mrs. Pris’ Science classes to share their experiences working for the biotechnology company and answer student questions.
Ms. Bowen explained how drug trials work and the long process it takes to approve medicines. She also talked about her education leading to her career, noting that a robust education is important in addition to a focus on science.
“Learn as many different things as you can. The more you know, the better it will help you,” Ms. Bowen told students.
Ms. Mastropietro discussed biomedical engineering and how even a seemingly simple device like a syringe is quite involved to manufacture. Students were fascinated by her research on eye injections, which she explained can be used for medicine to help treat some vision problems.
“The cool thing about innovation is every day is different. Continuous learning is such a great thing,” said Ms. Mastropietro.
Thank you so much Ms. Bowen and Ms. Mastropietro for visiting with our students! #sabrepride
