The Board of Education met last night for its regular meeting. Here is a summary.

  • Principal Matt Heckman and Assistant Principal Nicole Martyn presented an overview of the High School Academic Program. The administrators explained efforts to expand electives and rethink scheduling to provide more opportunities for students to take classes that interest them. They also shared how students receive more instruction time in areas like science and math to help them to be more successful. A presentation is available here.
  • Superintendent Dr. Thomas Reardon presented on how Schalmont is planning to use state SmartSchools Bond Technology funding. Dr. Reardon said the district is in good shape with its hardware and software but wants to update Wireless Access Points to improve wireless internet throughout its schools and provide teachers with more classroom touchscreens. A presentation is available here.
  • The Board approved contacts with Phinney Design for Capital Project Architecture services and Schoolhouse Construction Management Services to oversee the management of Schalmont’s Capital Project. The district plans to submit plans to the State Education Department this fall. Once approved, the district will be able to proceed with the bidding process. We will continue to keep our community updated about the project.
