Welcome back to JES

Jefferson Families,

Welcome back to Jefferson Elementary School!  We hope that everyone enjoyed a safe and enjoyable summer.  We would like to extend a special welcome to our new families who have registered their children in our school this summer. We are also excited to welcome a new group of Kindergarten students who will be starting elementary school for the very first time in September.

It is an exciting time of year as we look to the start of school in the coming weeks.  Please be advised that the first day of school is Wednesday, September 4, 2019 for all students in grades 1-12.  Our Kindergarten students will begin their first day of school on Thursday, September 5. Please be reminded that the Boys and Girls Club(after school program) will not open until Monday, September 23, 2019.

We are excited to introduce several new staff members that were hired over the summer months.  Please welcome the following new staff to our school:

  • Kate Cole, Grade 1
  • Julie Foster, Academic Intervention
  • Dena Iagrossi, Academic Intervention
  • Kate Mankuski, Special Education
  • Joleen Cordy- Nurse
  • Janell Sindoni- Part time nurse
  • Samantha Snyder- Teaching Assistant

Please remember that you play a critical role in ensuring your child’s success in school.  This begins with good school attendance. Our school day begins at 8:45 and ends at 3:00. Students who enter after 8:50 are considered tardy.  There is abundant research available on the importance of good attendance.  Please do your part in making sure that your child comes to school each day they are healthy.

During the first few days of school, please take the time to review the content in your child’s backpack.  Look for our school newsletter at the beginning of each month as it is full of information and events related to our school.  Make sure you browse our website (www.schalmont.org) during the week to view photos and stay abreast of events and other happenings at Jefferson.

Within the next several days, you will receive a postcard from our transportation department which will detail approximate pick up and drop off times for your children.  As we prepare ourselves for the start of school, begin to establish some of those “school routines” which entail earlier bedtimes and opportunities for reading.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have.  We are looking forward to a great year.

Sincerely,

Mr. Gifford and Mrs. Gordon
