The Schalmont Central School reopening plan has taken into account the need for students with higher need disabilities to have in-person instruction. We see this as a priority for our students with these identified needs whenever possible. Students with Disabilities will be offered instruction as follows:
Students with an IEP and enrolled in programs that are enrolled in a 12:1:1, 12:1:2, and 6:1:2 program ratio will attend school in-person every day, Monday through Friday and follow a typical school schedule. This applies to all grades, K-12.
Students with an IEP who are enrolled in a 15:1 program ratio, co-taught service, consultant teacher service, resource room service, or students with a 504 plan in grades 7 through 12 will follow the building schedule and attend school using the hybrid model.
Students with an IEP or 504 plan in grades K-6 will attend school in person each day, no matter the service they receive.
As you may already be aware, families in Schalmont will be able to choose a Virtual Only option for their students as we start the school year. This option applies to all students, including students with an IEP or a 504 plan.
Whether in person or virtual, the delivery of special education services will be achieved by using resources provided by the District. Online learning platforms and individual student Chromebooks will continue to be utilized. All educational materials will be used in accordance with the student’s IEPs or Section 504 Plan. Regardless of the method of instruction, IEP goals, IEP and 504 accommodations and all program modifications will be followed. Progress monitoring of goals and objectives will continue as required and progress notes will continue on schedule.
In the event that a student’s IEP or 504 plan cannot be met with reasonable effort due to the difference in the learning environment, a CSE or 504 committee meeting may be held and parents and school staff will discuss the next steps.
Please note that all CSE and 504 meetings will be held VIRTUALLY for the 2020-21 school year. Contact the Schalmont District Office to update your email address if it has recently changed. It is important that we have the correct information to send invitations to committee meetings as well as links to student documents so that you may access your child’s IEP or 504 through our online portal.
