Schalmont students will come back to safer playgrounds, brighter and improved school buildings, and new Middle and High School lockers when they return to school September 9.
At Jefferson Elementary, new climbers and swing chains at the playground were installed to replace ones that had potential pinch points.
“We updated them to make it safer for our students,” explained Facilities Director John O’Donnell.
New flooring was also installed in a number of bathrooms and hallways at Jefferson Elementary and concrete for the secondary school entrance was replaced. The school also has a new public address system, as does the Middle School.
Schalmont High School’s cafeteria and kitchen floors were also replaced, with a large Schalmont logo set in the middle of the cafeteria.
Our Facilities Department, in addition to all their hard work getting classrooms ready, also sanded and finished woodwork throughout the High School that create brighter hallways.
New lockers, which are wider to fit student items like backpacks, were also installed at the High School this summer and at the Middle School last summer. Students will get to use the lockers for the first time this year as lockers were not used last year due to COVID-19 precautions.
We can’t wait for our students to see their schools next week!
