Schalmont teacher wins top NYS award

In November, Kacie Sandbrook received the 2019 NYSCATE (New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education ) Lee Bryant Outstanding Teacher Award. This award recognizes a teacher who has implemented or demonstrated the use of technology to improve education in an outstanding manner. The nominee’s work must reflect the NYSCATE mission to transform teaching and learning through technology.

Kacie currently teaches Computer Science Discoveries (in partnership with Siena College), Advanced Digital Literary & Programming, Digital Literacy, and Tech Trep at Schalmont Central School District. She also advises the coding club at Schalmont Middle School. 

She is currently working on creating and aligning a computer science/digital literacy program at Schalmont. Kacie is a member of the Strategic Planning Committee board, the curriculum sub-committee, the computer science teachers association (CSTA), the New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education (NYSCATE), and is a NYS Master Teacher.
Kacie regularly runs workshops to educate fellow teachers on new ways to integrate technology in their classrooms and frequently speaks at local, state, and international education conferences.
