From the superintendent: Welcome back everyone!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It’s hard to believe that it is almost time to start another school year!

The 2018-19 academic year gets underway Thursday, Sept. 6 for grades 1-12 and Friday, Sept. 7 for our kindergarten students.

Our staff is already preparing for another great year!

This summer has been a busy time of summer school, professional development, and facilities upgrades.
We at Schalmont Central Schools will strive to provide educational opportunities that will engage every student and build capacity in order to prepare students with the necessary 21st century competencies to compete and excel in a complex, evolving, and interconnect world.

Our technology cabinet subcommittee has worked on updates to our district technology plan and these will be rolled out to all staff when finalized. Once again, we will be moving forward with technology both in and out of the classroom. We now have 1:1 devices for all HS students and are continuing our 1:1 Chromebook initiative for students in grades 7 and 8.

We started work on our bond project at all three schools and the district office. The middle school classrooms are completely abated of asbestos and the new tile and paint really brighten up the place! Come see some of our many student-athletes this fall and make sure you check out the refurbished track in the stadium!

Our summer crew has done a tremendous job of picking up where the contractors left off and the buildings and grounds look fabulous! Our students will return to bright, clean classrooms, and buildings and well-groomed campuses that honor the traditions of the Schalmont community but position them for 21st Century success!

As your home fills with the excitement of heading back to school, I encourage you to get involved in the Sabre community. Reach out to your child’s teacher, join the PTO, sign up for SNN, and Schoology so you can stay up-to-date with your child’s progress throughout the year. Feel free to attend any of our school board meetings, and stay up to date on school news and activities by visiting the district website and following us on social media.

If at any point during the school year, you have any concerns, my door — as well as the principals’ — is always open. Feel free to give us a call, send us an email or set up a meeting if you wish to discuss anything.

Through our collective teamwork, I know we can continue to accomplish great things because together… We Are Schalmont!

I’m looking forward to a productive and rewarding school year for all!
