Longtime teacher gives 'Purpose' to Class of 2018

A group of students with a retired teacherSchalmont is so near to longtime teacher Kathleen Bragle’s heart that she commissioned an original song for the Class of 2018.

The song, “My Purpose, was written by award-winning composer Jill Gallina and performed by choral students at the May 17 concert.

“I asked if Mrs. Bragle had a theme in mind for the commission and she said she wanted something to inspire them on their jourbey through life, said Gallina.

Bragle taught music at Schalmont for 36 years.

“I have always said that I had the best job in the world and you, the Class of 2018, are one of the big reasons for that statement, she said.

It didn’t start out that way. Bragle recalls that when this year’s graduates were in fifth grade, things changed a bit at Jefferson Elementary and it was decided that every student had to be in chorus.

“Frankly, I dreaded it. I didn't know what to expect and was unsure of the outcome, she said. “Well, you ended up totally blowing me away. You came to chorus each week with such great attitudes and always ready to sing. You are an incredible group of students. On so many levels, you have touched my life as a teacher.
