Schalmont Central Schools is pleased to announce that Mr. Matthew Heckman was appointed this evening, June 10, 2020, to serve as the Principal of Schalmont High School. Mr. Heckman is coming to us from Shenendehowa, where he has been an assistant principal for the past 11 years. As an assistant principal, he has supervised a number of academic departments, in addition to the discipline, master scheduling, and instructional planning for his assigned staff. Prior to his administrative career, he worked as a special education teacher both at Shenendehowa and Questar III BOCES.
Mr. Heckman distinguished himself as the best fit for this position through his demonstrated instructional leadership and classroom innovation; the rapport and respect that exist between him and the students, parents, and community; and his background in instructional leadership at Shenendehowa High School.
“I would like to thank all of the members of the search and interview committees including the faculty and staff of Schalmont High School, and the students, parents, and community members who provided input and feedback throughout the search process,” stated Carol Pallas, Superintendent.
“As the principal of Schalmont High School, I am looking forward to working with all members of the school community to ensure every student has a positive experience in school with access to high-quality educational opportunities. I hope to build upon the many past successes of Schalmont while working alongside the great educators at the high school to learn and grow together. I am truly honored, and excited, to be joining such a great community of students, families, and educators.” said Heckman.
Mr. Heckman will begin transitioning into the principal role throughout the end of the school year, and he will formally take over as the principal of Schalmont High School in July.
