Letter About HS Open House

Schalmont High School Families,

The 2023 High School Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 28 at 6:00 p.m. The intent of the Open House is to provide our families with the opportunity to meet their student’s teachers and to learn more about our academic programs and individual courses. The classroom presentations will include information on the course learning standards, grading practices, academic expectations, as well as the classroom culture and environment.

Below is the schedule for Open House. We ask all families to check Schoology or the Parent Portal for your student’s 1st period room location and go to that room by 6:00 p.m.. Once there, we will begin the evening with our homeroom announcements and you will receive a paper copy of your students’ class schedule to follow for the evening.

Schedule for an “A” Day

  • Homeroom/Period 1 – 6:00 to 6:11 p.m.
  • Period 2 – 6:14 to 6:23 p.m.
  • Period 3 6:26 to 6:35 p.m.
  • Period 4 6:38 to 6:47 p.m.
  • Period 5 6:50 to 6:59 p.m.
  • Period 6 7:02 to 7:11 p.m.
  • Period 7 7:14 to 7:23 p.m.
  • Period 8 7:26 to 7:35 p.m.
  • Period 9 7:38 to 7:47 p.m.

Students who attend the AM BOCES CTE Program do not have a HR/1st period. Families of those students should plan to arrive around 7:05 p.m. for their student’s first High School class. We will have schedules in the lobby for this group.

As we will be following the “A” day schedule, some students may not have Physical Education on their schedule for the evening. In this event, we are asking families to report to the gym rather than the science lab, math lab or study hall.

We encourage our families to attend Physical Education classes rather than their students’ science lab period if the “A” day is lab day, unless they have a different teacher for the lab class. If this is the case, our families can attend PE during a different period (possibly during math lab or study hall). Additionally, there is no need to attend study hall. Please use this as a time to stop by the Main Office to speak with the administrative team or a member of our Counseling Department.

Our Related Service Providers, including our School Counselors, Social Workers and School Psychologist, will have a presentation for our families in the auditorium during all lunch periods. Our Related Service Providers will also be available in the Main Office to answer questions about our Counseling and Student Support Program.

If there are questions unrelated to class or broader school-related topics, please do not hesitate to see a member of our administrative team. Additionally, if you have specific questions or concerns about your student, our faculty will provide you with a “Family Conference Form” to complete in order to arrange for a private conversation.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on Thursday, September 28.
