Health Dept. Reports COVID-19 Cases

Dear Schalmont families,

We want to let our community know that the Schenectady County Department of Health informed us late Monday of five recent confirmed cases of COVID-19.

None of the individuals, however, have had any contact with students, faculty or staff that requires contact tracing or additional quarantining. The individuals will remain in quarantine but the Health Department informed us no further action is required.

Please know we will notify our entire school community whenever we have a confirmed case that requires others to quarantine, as we did for the two cases in November. If the Health Department determines your child should quarantine due to possible exposure to COVID-19, you will receive a personal call from us to let you know and answer any questions you may have.

But given the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, we also want to be careful going forward not to cause undue concern for families by sending alerts when we learn of a case that does not require others to quarantine. If a fully remote student who has not been in our buildings, for example, tests positive for COVID-19, we will share that information on our website but not send an alert. We hope this approach will ensure transparency by providing the information for those who seek it without creating undue stress in this already stressful time.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact me at treardon@schalmont.net or 518-355-9200 ext. 4001.

If you ever have questions about COVID-19, please contact your child’s school nurse who will be happy to answer them.

As always, the health and safety of your child is our top priority.

Thank you and be well.

Dr. Thomas Reardon
Superintendent
