Dear Grades 5-8 families,
This spring Schalmont schools will administer the New York State Grades 3-8 Assessments for English Language Arts and Math. The dates are listed below.
- Grade 7 & 8, A-L – Monday, April 19 from 7:40 – 9:15 a.m.
- Grade 7 & 8, M-Z – Tuesday, April 20 from 7:40 – 9:15 a.m.
- Grades 5-6 – Wednesday, April 21 from 7:40 – 9:15 a.m.
- Grade 7 & 8, A-L – Monday, May 3 from 7:40 – 9:15 a.m.
- Grade 7 & 8, M-Z – Tuesday, May 4 from 7:40 – 9:15 a.m.
- Grades 5-6 – Wednesday, May 5 from 7:40 – 9:15 a.m.
As has always been our practice at Schalmont, we believe every student should take the assessments and simply do the best they can. We use the results as another opportunity to gather data about our students to see where they currently are on their educational journey. The assessments are not tied to evaluations.
In response to our unusual year, the New York State Education Department has reduced the number of questions and shortened each assessment to one session, only containing multiple choice questions. As in the past, the assessments are untimed and a break will be provided if needed.
Please know that our instructional program for the days listed above is planned around students taking the assessments. If your student is not going to take the assessment, we are unable to provide an alternate location as we have in the past due to COVID-19 restrictions. We ask that those students not testing remain at home during the exam. If you plan to have your student not take the assessments, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com by April 1. In the email, please include the name and grade of your child, which test your student will not be taking, and that you understand that you must keep your child at home during the assessment times.
Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions.
Mr. Scott Ziomek
Middle School Principal
