From the HS Principal: Changes to the Guidance Dept.

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I am writing to inform you of a change in your child’s guidance counselor.

After over 25 years at Schalmont, Mr. Bailey is retiring at the end of March and we will be working to transition your child to their new counselor.  We will be sad to see him go, but all wish him well in retirement.

In the next few weeks, Mr. Bailey will be working to complete all of the scheduling requests with his students.  This is an important process for your child, and I am glad that they will have the opportunity to complete that with Mr. Bailey, as he knows them, their academic interests and goals.  Should any questions arise after his departure, you can reach out to Ms. McKeon in the guidance office and she will direct your questions or concerns to a counselor who can help you.  Also, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

After meeting with guidance staff, we feel the best transition for our students is to keep his caseload with a counselor that knows the school, our programs, and is comfortable with preparing seniors for life post-graduation. Ms. Ackermann is completing her caseload of seniors this year, and will take over Mr. Bailey’s classes next school year to make sure our incoming juniors and seniors are taken care of during these critical high school years. Because Ms. Ackermann still has her seniors, this transition will officially take place this July.

While a change mid-year can be a challenge, I think the plan moving forward will work to ensure students a seamless transition. Starting July 1, the Guidance caseloads will be as follows:

  • Grade 9 (Class of ’23): New Hire
  • Grade 10 (Class of ’22): Greg Loiacono
  • Grade 11 (Class of ’21):  Deb Ackermann
  • Grade 12 (Class of ’20): Greg Loiacono /Deb Ackermann.

Thank you in advance for being patient with us as we work on this transition.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel to reach out to me.
