Environmental Science Students Identify Trees

Students identifying trees

Schalmont High School juniors and seniors put what they learned about dendrology, the scientific study of trees, to work by identifying different types of trees on campus on October 15 and 16.

Science Teacher James Sommer led Environmental Science students outside where they used what they learned in the classroom about conifer and deciduous trees, branching patterns and leaf characteristics to identify trees.

In recent years, Environmental Science was taught through distance learning but student interest in the subject has grown so much that Schalmont High School offers two sections of the course this year.
