School
officials frequently receive requests from a variety of community
groups, as well as organizations outside of the school district's
boundaries to distribute information about events, activities and
programs that may be of interest to district children and their
families.
The district has a long-standing tradition of cooperating with community agencies and organizations and serves as a central hub of activity in the community, particularly as it relates to educational and recreational opportunities available to children. To that end, the district strives to assist in making students and parents aware of additional opportunities for growth and development.
In the past, requests have been fulfilled by sending flyers home via backpack mail at the elementary school and middle school levels, and occasionally by posting online. However, at that time, there was not a clear policy or guidelines in place to follow when considering approval of such requests and appropriate distribution channels based on the type of organization and content submitted.
In addition, the distribution of such information and announcements to each student takes time from the instructional day. To that end, the district is making an effort to save paper and the time of our busy teachers and office staff.
Instead of distribution via traditionally printed backpack mail, flyers for non-profit community organizations will be posted on this "Community News eBackpack" page.
The district's communications guidelines will be followed when considering approval of such requests and any other appropriate distribution channels based on the type of organization and content submitted.
If you have any questions, please contact the district's Communications Office at 355-9200, ext. 4006, or communications@schalmont.net.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we make this transition.
