Asst. Supt. Mr. Karas Leaving Schalmont

Schalmont would like to inform our community that Assistant Superintendent for Business Joseph Karas will be leaving Schalmont at the end of September to take a similar position with the Albany City School District.

“We are so incredibly proud of Joe and it speaks to his amazing talents that he will help lead one of the largest school districts in the Capital Region,” said Superintendent Dr. Thomas Reardon. “Joe will be deeply missed not only for his financial expertise but for always putting students first. To say I will miss Joe as a colleague and friend is an understatement. He has been an invaluable partner and a tremendous asset to Schalmont.”

Mr. Karas has been with Schalmont for the past 3 1/2 years. The Board of Education formally accepted Mr. Karas’ resignation at last night’s meeting. For the past two years, Mr. Karas has helped create budgets that have not raised the tax levy while preserving programs and student opportunities.

Schalmont has already started its search for a successor to Mr. Karas. In the meantime, Schalmont Treasurer Brenda Leitt will serve as an interim school business official.

Congratulations, Mr. Karas!
