Graduation

Since the letter of April 30th, we have received no new guidance on HS Graduation Ceremonies from the Governor’s Office.

New this week:

      • On Monday, May 4th, some members of the graduation planning team visited the Jericho Drive-In Theater to see how we might organize graduation there if we are able to do so and/or potentially choose this as our venue option. This Friday we will meet with the full committee to share our observations and ideas and discuss more.
      • Students who are speakers for our digital graduation productions must submit their speeches to class advisors by Friday, May 8th for approval.
      • As we discussed, at this point we are waiting for the Governor’s guidance surrounding the hosting of Graduation Ceremonies in our Region.  Please understand that all of the following options will include a virtual experience in order to ensure all family and friends that want to participate have the opportunity to do so.

Jericho Drive-In: The drive-in would be set up with a stage on the lawn under the big screen where students would be provided the opportunity to receive their diploma in a traditional ceremony format (walking across the stage).  We can either have students stay in the vehicle with their families, or sit on the front lawn and spaced out according to social distancing guidelines. The closer we come to the ceremony date we will be able to determine the safest option for our students and their families.  Our hope is that we will be able to have the students sit together, upfront, while families stay in their vehicles to watch on screen.  We will live stream this event on the movie screen so that all vehicles in the complex may view the full ceremony.  This option would limit the number of vehicles allowed into the complex and would begin later in the evening in order to ensure viewing on the jumbo screen.  We are unable to secure our June 26th date, and would need to hold our ceremony on Friday, June 19th if we move forward with this option.

High School Football Field: We could hold this event on our originally scheduled ceremony date of June 26th, however, this date is flexible. One of the options discussed was to plan for an event in the last week of July this summer.  We would provide a stage and hold a traditional ceremony for students to participate in, however, we would be unable to open this ceremony to the public due to the restrictions in place. We would live stream this event for all families while the event itself would be limited to students only.  If guidelines change and we are able to host parents in addition to students we will arrange seating in order to accommodate the current guidelines in place.

Virtual Ceremony: We are in the process of creating a virtual version of our graduation ceremony.  We are currently in the process of obtaining videos of student speeches.  In this option, we will NOT have a video of each individual student walking across the stage but will have their senior picture up on the screen with a description of the cords they have earned while their name is announced for commencement. This option may be modified based on Governor’s orders, however, it currently meets the guidelines set forth by the state.  This version will be created in addition to any of the other proposals for an in-person ceremony.  IF this becomes our ONLY option we will explore the logistics of videoing each individual student walking across the stage in place of the still version of their photo.

Proctors: One of the potential options is to have student and adult speeches recorded in advance on the Proctors stage to be added to our virtual ceremony.  This option would NOT be used to video ALL students walking across the stage.

We hope this synopsis gives a clear overview of the options we all discussed today.  If you have any other questions or concerns please reach out.  We look forward to working with you through this process.

Caps and Gowns

We are almost ready to hand out your caps and gowns, we are just awaiting a few items. As soon as these items are delivered we will let you know a date for pick up and safe process for doing so.
