Schalmont Middle School was honored to partner with Charter Communications, the History Channel, and Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara’s office to host area veterans at Schalmont Middle School.

The event was part of the History Channel’s “Take a Vet to School Day” program. The initiative encourages schools to connect veterans and students, so they can learn more about military service and Veterans Day.

“I would like to thank you all for being true heroes,” said Student Council President Grace Pierson Pierson as she welcomed the honorees.

“This event brings history to life,” said Santabarbara. “This is something real, something students can interact with.”

Santabarbara, who served in the US Army Reserve and is now a member of the State Assembly’s Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, commended the veterans for their service, noting that “it’s important that we honor these heroes and their dedication to our country. These are people who live here. They’re from our community.”

The assemblyman has set up a “Thank a Veteran” webpage where constituents can send veterans messages of appreciation.
