Jefferson students participate in evacuation drill

Nov. 24, 2015

Students evacuate the buildingIn collaboration with emergency responders, Jefferson Elementary School practiced an evacuation drill this morning.

The students and staff were evacuated and relocated to a safe location off school grounds where attendance was taken before returning back to the school.

The drill went according to plan and all school staff and students responded appropriately and quickly returned to the regularly scheduled day.

“Our students were calm, prepared, and ready to listen to instructions,” said Principal Joby Gifford.

Drills like this are part of Schalmont Central School District’s effort to plan for and ensure that staff members are trained in how to act during a potential emergency and to give students practice opportunities. As always, our goal is to make sure students and staff are as safe as possible at all times, and drills are an important way for us to practice and improve our protocols and procedures.

Please take the time to discuss today’s drill with your child(ren), including any anxiety they may have. As always, if you have any questions about this event or safety procedures, please contact the superintendent’s office at 355-9200 or your child’s school.

School continues to be one of the safest places for children and we are always looking for ways to make it even safer. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
