Schalmont students help provide fresh water to students in Uganda

Nov. 12, 2015

Last year, as part of a project in Lauren Defayette and Michael Libertucci's 7/8 grade English Language Arts class, students collected spare change from their classmates to donate to a group called The Water Project.

They were inspired to organize the project after reading a novel called "A Long Walk to Water," which discussed the water crisis that was occurring in Africa and tied in pieces of the crisis going on in the Sudan.

The Water Project helps bring freshwater resources to places where this is a challenge. Dafayette adn Libertucci recently received an email from The Water Project informing them the money the students collected went to a help Kigezi Primary School in Uganda get a new freshwater well. Learn more about the project here.

The students involved in this project include: Diesel Wederman, Josh Savona, Sebastiano Santuccione, Jacob March, Nik DiDonato, Chris Lawrence, and Doug Moraski.
