Sept. 4, 2015

Hairspray set

set design trophyLast year's spring production of "Hairspray" was awarded first place for a national set design contest hosted by ScenoGraphics, a company that supplies set designs to high schools across the country that adapt adapt the sets to their particular stage.

Each year, ScenoGraphics encourage participating high schools to send in photos of their completed sets. At the end of the school year, they adjudicate all entries.

The set for "Hairspray" was built by 40 students, parents (Mr. James Stagnitti and Mr. Michael Townsend) and staff members (Ms. Nora Sabatini and Ms. Debra McCloskey). Many of the students who help build the set also acted in the show or worked back stage during the show. They all took as much pride in the quality of their work building the set as they did performing in the show.

The Drama Club received a letter and a trophy for their award.

"Hairspray" was previously awarded third place for outstanding high school productions in the Capital District and surrounding regions by the Schenectady Light Opera Company. Sarah Ploof was presented award as outstanding female performer for her role as Tracy Turnblad by the same company. Five other performers were nominated for the same award.
