‘Shark Tank’ comes to Schalmont Middle School

Schalmont Middle School recently hosted its own version of "Shark Tank," Sabre-style.

Students were tasked to create an invention or improve upon an existing product that would make a person’s or a pet’s life easier. Students could work in teams of up to four and where judged on creativity and originality, usefulness, and functionality.

Fifteen students participated. They were judged by:

• Jessica Farland, Union College Student, Bioengineering
• Meggie Ferrari, Union College Student, Bioengineering
• Paul Pedinotti, Computer Engineer and Schalmont Parent
• Lisa Ruud, Technology Specialist at NERIC
• Bob Sheehan, Health Executive and BOE Member
• Seema Riveria, Clarkson University Professor

The winners were Hayden McGarry and William Kruk for "Lock-and-pocket" (lockable towel for use at beach or water park) and Riley Carlone for "Pocket Bro" (clip-on or wearable pencil case). The winners received Amazon gift cards. All participants received READ braclets and certificates.
