Schalmont student arrested

 April 4, 2016

A Schalmont student was arrested today on a class D felony for “making terroristic threats.”

The Rotterdam Police Department has released a statement saying that the student was arrested following a weekend-long investigation into threatening comments that were made on the student’s personal social media account Friday evening. Schalmont school administrators have been working with police throughout their investigation.

Due to his age, the student has been petitioned to appear in family court today.

While privacy laws prevent the district from addressing the specifics of any one student’s discipline case, the district remains committed to enforcing the Code of Conduct in order to assure the safety of all students.

“At this time the threat has been removed, and we have no reason to believe there is any additional threat to the safety of Schalmont students or staff,” Schalmont Superintendent Dr. Carol Pallas said. “We take these types of threats very seriously. They have no place in our schools or in our community.”

Anyone with questions or concerns should call the district office at 355-9200 or the Rotterdam Police Department at 355-7331.
