SMS/SMH hold lockdown drill

March 29, 2016

Schalmont Middle and High Schools conducted a lockdown drill today. The drill was conducted in coordination with the Rotterdam Police Department. The event lasted approximately 15 minutes, during which time the complex went into complete lockdown as it would if it were a true emergency.

All school staff and students responded appropriately and quickly returned to the regularly scheduled day.

Drills like this are part of Schalmont Central School’s effort to plan for and ensure that staff members are trained in how to act during a potential emergency and to give students practice opportunities. As always, our goal is to make sure that students and staff are as safe as possible at all times, and drills are an important way for us to practice and improve our protocols and procedures.

Please take the time to discuss today’s drill with your child(ren), including any anxiety they may have. As always, if you have any questions about this event or safety procedures, please contact the superintendent’s office at 355-9200, ext. 4001 or your child’s principal.
