Culinary students honored, ready to compete in SkillsUSA event

Eight culinary students from around the region, including three from Schalmont, will represent Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School (CTE) at the regional SkillsUSA competition later this month after winning CTE-based competitions.

The students and others were honored on Feb. 26 in front of a packed-house of parents, faculty, administrators and peers.

The honorees received trophies, medals and certificates for competing in a series of SkillsUSA competition at the school. They competed in four different categories that tested their abilities on everything from knife skills to table setting.

The top two points earners in each competition — which was judged by area chefs and restraunters — advance to the March 16 SkillsUSA regional competition in Schenectady and potentially onto state and national events.
