SMS students win 'Best Green Architecture' award in regional competition

Future Cities teamCongratulations to Schalmont Middle School students, along with Mrs. Duxbury and Mrs. D'Alessandro, for winning the "Best Green Architecture" award as part of the Future City regional competition in Albany.

The Capital District Future City Competition is an educational program for students in grades 6 through 8, in which engineering skills are learned as students work as a team, along with a teacher coach and an engineer volunteer mentor, to design, build, and present their version of a city of the future. The project focuses on several aspects of learning through the project, including applying math, science, engineering and technology skills, as well as enhancing writing and presentation skills.
The Capital District Region Future City Competition is part of the DiscoverE Future City Competition, held annually in Washington, D.C. According to the program’s website, the program” is recognized by the education and engineering communities as one of the nation's leading programs for enabling students to make the connection between math and science to engineering through its real-world applications.”
