Study

Declining enrollment over the past five years and a variety of
financial challenges prompted the Schalmont Board of Education to
commission an independent study of the district's kindergarten
through twelfth-grade programming in December 2009.
This involved a thorough analysis of capacity levels,
programming and scheduling at each school building, interviews
with the district’s administrative team, visits to school
facilities and the gathering of demographic information and
enrollment projections.
The completed study was made available publicly in September
2010.
Feedback sought via roundtable discussions
A series of roundtable discussions
were held throughout the fall and winter to engage the
community in conversations about the challenges ahead and
possible changes in the delivery of the district's kindergarten
through twelfth-grade programming.
Eight options, ranging from
continuing the district’s current pattern of delivery to closing
a school or schools and combining attendance zones, are among
the options under consideration.
Prior
to the discussions, residents were encouraged to
read the study or
synopsis of major study findings
to gain a better understanding of the district's changing
demographics.
