Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
FERPA affords parents and students over 18 years of age ("eligible students") certain rights with respect to the student's education records. These rights are:

1. The right to inspect and review the student's education records within 45 days of the day the school receives a request for access. More...
2. The right to request the amendment of the student's education records that the parent or eligible student believes are inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student's privacy rights under FERPA. More...
3. The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student's education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent. More...
4. The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the school district to comply with the requirements of FERPA. More...

FERPA requires that the school district, with certain exceptions, obtain your written consent prior to the disclosure of personally identifiable information from your child's education records. However, the school district may disclose appropriately designated "directory information" without written consent, unless you have advised the district to the contrary in accordance with district procedures. Maintenance of Records
The Schalmont District, in compliance with Public Law 94-192, maintains in each of its schools, programs for students who have been identified as having a disability. The confidential records of students with disabilities are kept in the Committee of Special Education files, located at Schalmont Middle School. The committee designates, in writing, school personnel who have access to these records. The individual child's records are always available for inspection and review by the child's parents. Call Joanne VanGenderen, director of Special Education, at 355-9200, x4019, for more information on these records.

Pesticide Notification
Under state law, the Schalmont Central School District is required to notify you that pesticide products may be used in school buildings throughout the year. Parents, guardians, and staff may request 48-hour advance written notification, including the date and place where the pesticide will be used, the name of the pesticide and its EPA registration number and who to contact for more information. To be placed on the list, call Wendy Dixon at the District Office, 355-9200 ext. 4001.

Student Directory Information
From time to time, student directory information (e.g. name, grade, photo, awards, activities) depicting activities in Schalmont Central School District is released for use in school district publications, on this Web site or by the media. Parents who object to the release of their child's information and/or photograph should notify both the superintendent of schools and their child's building principal in writing on or before September 15 in any school year.

The Schalmont Central School District hereby advises students, parents, employees, and the general public that if offers employment and educational opportunities, without regard to age, sex, race, color, national origin, or disability.
