Meetings follow a prepared agenda. Copies are available to the
public prior to each meeting.

board conducts official action
on agenda items. The school board may also receive
education program and information reports on which no action is
taken.
The school board meets in executive session to discuss personnel,
labor negotiations and other matters that are of a confidential
nature as defined by the Open Meeting Law of the State of New
York.
Executive sessions are closed to the public. However, any formal
action on the passage of any resolution must be taken in open
session.
Participation at Board Meetings
A special time for public comment is set aside at each regular
meeting. This gives residents the opportunity to express their opinions
on school district matters while reserving the remainder of the
meeting for uninterrupted deliberation and action.
The school board president may grant speakers permission to make brief
statements about specific agenda items at times other than the
periods scheduled for public comment.
Addressing the School Board
To address the school board:
- Fill out a request-to-speak
form and give it to the Schalmont business administrator at the
beginning of the meeting.
- Wait to be recognized by the
board president.
- If a large number of people
want to speak, the board president may set a specific time
limit for each speaker. Speakers may only speak once during
the public comment session.
- Board members will listen to
each speaker's remarks, but no action will be taken until the
board is properly prepared to address the issues.
- The board will respond to
all communications by the most appropriate means.
