Schalmont’s curriculum encompasses all that is academic and extracurricular. In the last several years, curricula at Schalmont has changed to reflect the current New York State curricula and assessments. State standardized tests in English language arts and math will now begin in third grade and continue each year in these subject areas through grade 8 at the middle school level. (These tests will be implemented in spring 2006.) Benchmark tests are also given in science at the fourth- and eighth-grade levels. The New York State Regents at the high school level determine core academic curricula for grades 9-12. In addition to all of the mandated course work for students, other subject areas and content are available.

Some students are able to accelerate their learning at the middle school in the areas of math and foreign language. An accelerated science program is currently being explored. A Math Olympiad Club is available to elementary students.

Students in the high school have opportunities including Advanced Placement courses, a range of electives that may appeal to their individual interests, and college credit courses. Many high school students take advantage of the regional BOCES vocational education programs, which supplement their academic schedule at Schalmont.

Schalmont seeks to educate the whole child, and offers a wide range of special area courses and numerous extracurricular activities in the form of clubs, sports, field trips, internships, and community service projects.
