Dear Woestina Families,
Welcome back to another great school year! I hope everyone is
well rested after an enjoyable summer. I am excited to begin a
fresh year with all of our students, families and staff.
As has been our practice, Woestina will focus on some specific
academic goals this year, keeping in line with the Schalmont
district as a whole. Language Arts, which includes reading and
writing, will continue to be a priority. We will work as a
school community to ensure that all of our students are
successful. Changes in state and federal requirements will
impact our testing and assessment schedules this year. We will
be sharing new information with parents as the year progresses.
We will also begin working with our new school Facilitation
Team. This is made up of teachers, parents and staff who are
committed to working with the community stakeholders to identify
and implement school improvements that help to increase student
achievement.
You will notice a few new faces among our staff members this
year:
-
Art: Mrs. Bobbie Albrecht is excited to
be returning to Woestina this year as our art teacher.
-
Physical Education: Mr. Brian Croote,
who has been teaching in the Schalmont School District for
several years, will be our new physical education teacher.
-
First grade: Mrs. Kristen DiPiazza will
join our school community as our new first grade teacher.
She has taught first grade for several years, most recently
at Mariaville.
-
Fourth grade: Mrs. Kelly Healy, who has
taught sixth grade at Schalmont Middle School for many
years, will be joining us as our new fourth grade teacher.
She also previously taught technology at the elementary
level in Schalmont.
-
Secretary: Mrs. Kathie McKeon will
serve as our split secretary. She will be at Woestina all
day on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday afternoons. On
alternate days, she will be at Mariaville where she has been
the secretary for the past four years.
In addition, Miss Jamie Pink is moving up to teach third
grade and Mrs. Kim Woodrow is moving up to teach fifth grade.
Mrs. Joy Moore is returning from leave to teach second grade.
With these new faces, we must bid farewell to several people:
-
Mrs. Krista Gillis
-
Mrs. Holly Stadel
-
Mrs. Michelle Weeks
-
Mrs. Pat Cerone
We wish them all the best as they move on to new challenges!
As always, we encourage you to be in close contact with your
child’s teacher throughout the year. Please also check out the
teacher web pages and my web page for more information on
Woestina happenings.
It is very important that we work together to give our students
the best opportunities to be successful. That has long been a
staple of Woestina. I wish you all a rewarding and fun-filled
school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Shari Lontrato,
Principal
Woestina Elementary School
