Welcome to our music education program at
Woestina Elementary. Music education is an integral part of
children’s education. It provides an avenue for children to
express themselves and their emotions in a way that only music
can. Music enforces a higher level of thinking and reasoning
that improves children’s capacity to learn and comprehend.
Because of having music education, children will lead
better-rounded lives. Music Program
At Woestina, elementary children in
grades 1 -5 have music class for 30 minutes, twice a week. At
the kindergarten level, they have music once a week. All
children at Woestina participate in both performances during the
year — one in December and one in April or May. Throughout the
school year, there are various opportunities for the children to
perform within their own building and in the community. Children
learn the language of music through the playing of Orff
instruments, recorders (beginning in 3rd grade), active
movement, and singing songs using proper vocal techniques.
Performance Groups
The Woestina Chorus is made up of all the 4th & 5th graders who
meet once a week during the school day. Any 5th grader who would
like to take an instrument and perform in the 5th Grade Band is
eligible to do so. The 5th Grade Band at Woestina is small, but
the sounds they produce are wonderful.
