At Mariaville Elementary School, we
conduct three different types of drills with our students
throughout the school year, to ensure everyone’s safety.
- Fire drills are conducted frequently during the year, and
we work closely with our friends at the Mariaville Volunteer
Fire Dept. to teach our students about fire safety.
- We also conduct an evacuation drill annually, in which our
students practice evacuating the school site to our emergency
location, the Mariaville Fire Dept. building.
- The third drill we practice is called a lockdown. In a
lockdown, students and staff are locked securely in classrooms
where students are given safety directions, and classrooms
are arranged for various safety purposes.
Parents should expect children to discuss these drills as the
year progresses. We recommend you use that as an opportunity to
discuss related safety issues with them.
