On
a warm afternoon in April, students at Mariaville Elementary
School celebrated Earth Day 2008 by cleaning up their school
grounds and learning natural ways to enrich their environment.
Teachers worked with students on Earth Day-related topics
throughout the week, and the Mariaville PTO organized the
culminating Earth Day celebration.
Students in grades 1-5 helped weed, mulch and plant new
greenery in the school's front planting bed and near the
playground. Celebration activities included two projects
that were taken home, the first of which was a planted
flower seed. Students also learned how to create bird
feeders out of stale bagels and seeds.
