Mariaville Elementary School recently celebrated its 80th
anniversary and the 50th anniversary of Schalmont Central School
District with a time capsule ceremony and school concert.
During the time capsule ceremony,
representatives from each grade level presented items to be
included in the new time capsule, students provided musical
entertainment, and Principal Brian Hunt shared a slide show with
historical facts and pictures. Principal Hunt also shared a
video of students interviewing former retirees about their early
Mariaville memories.
Later that evening, the 80th anniversary
concert and celebration included musical performances, poetry
readings, the slide show, and recognition of special guests like
Lois Troup, a retired Mariaville principal who donated a plaque
that honors school principals of the past, present and future.
In addition, a representative from the office of Sen. Hugh
Farley presented Principal Hunt with a senate resolution
honoring the 80th anniversary of the school.
