Summer Reading book loan:
Beginning in June, students may borrow up to five books from the
MS Library to read over the summer. We are participating in the
Scholastic Guinness World Records Reading goal of 171,000
minutes read by all students combined over the summer!
Schenectady County Public Library:
The Schenectady County Public Library Summer Reading Program can
be done in partnership with the MS Summer Reading Program. For
more details, go to
www.scpl.org. The Rotterdam branch is looking for students
to volunteer at the library during the summer. Contact Mrs.
Nancy Gifford at 356-3440 for more details.
Taking research to a
new level: Mrs Defayette’s eighth-grade health
class took their research project to another level by
researching health-related professions matching their
interests. Who knew you could tie art and music into a
healthcare profession--let alone race car driving, a love of
animals, technology, engineering, and sports? Students shared
their knowledge with fellow students and staff members during a
Career Share Fair on March 16. Students used posters, powerpoint
presentations, comics and hands-on demonstrations to educate
their guests. Learn
more and view photos from the student-run healthcare career
fair...

Students Prepped for
Summer Reading at MS Library Open House:
On Thursday, June 17, the Schalmont Middle School Library hosted
a Summer Reading Open House. Mrs. Gifford, the children's
librarian at the Schenectady Public Library, was on hand to
speak with students and staff about the New York State-sponsored
Summer Reading Initiative, as well as to inform students about
programs and volunteering opportunities at the public library.
Mrs. Fasano, MS librarian, and Mrs. Caputo played hosts to the
many visitors coming through for good conversation and sharing,
and of course, delicious refreshments!
Literacy Night Pictures Are Here! A good
time was had by all. Take a look at the pictures and you can see
