Mr. James Scott has been employed at Schalmont as a guidance counselor for 30 years.  He is responsible for middle school students whose last names begin with A-K. 

Mr. Scott received his B.B.A. in Accounting from LeMoyne College and worked for Price Waterhouse and GE after college.  He received his M.S. in Counseling from SUC Oneonta and has completed additional graduate work at Colgate University, Utica College, SUC Cortland and the University of Toledo (Ohio).  He is certified in Business, Guidance and Administration at the building and district levels.

Mr. Scott began his career at Norwich Junior High, teaching math for 5 years.  He then moved to Toledo, Ohio and taught math there before accepting a position as a Guidance Counselor at Mt. Upton in Sydney. NY, where he worked for 3 years. He has been employed at Schalmont since 1977.

Mr. Scott is a member of the Capital District Counseling Association.

He views his role as a "liaison between students, families and teachers,  acting as a supporter and motivator to assist the student as he/she makes the transition between elementary and high school."

Mr. Scott has been married for over 40 years and has two grown sons and 3 grandchildren.
