Participating students in grades 2-5 were tasked with doing a project that allowed another person to learn something by looking at their project presentation. More...

She worked with students on writing lessons that pertained to something they were already studying, such as how to begin writing and how to revise your writing. As part of a professional development opportunity, she also engaged teachers in a dialog about the framework for the writing process and the best language to use with kids when discussing writing.

Jefferson Students Celebrate St. Patrick's Day: On the morning of March 17, St. Patrick's Day,  six members of the Schenectady Pipe Band performed for the student body of Jefferson School.  During the half-hour program, Mark DuBois, husband of instrumental music teacher, Kris DuBois, demonstrated for the children the different parts of the bagpipes, and talked about the traditional dress of a bagpiper. The program included Celtic tunes and the American folk tune, "Amazing Grace".  It was a first for Jefferson School and a treat for all!  Vocal music teacher, Kathleen Bragle arranged for the program, which was funded by the Friends of Music.

Join the 1000 Book Child Program - The purpose of the 1000 Book Child Program is to encourage reading. Studies support the theory that if a child between the ages of three and six is exposed to 1,000 pieces of good literature, they will do better academically in school. The collection is housed at Jefferson, but all district elementary parents are invited to use the program daily from 7:30 a.m.– 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The school will be open on Thursday evenings from 5–7 p.m. as well. More information...
