Schalmont HS Athletic Teams
Relay Team Breaks Another
School Record: Congratulations to the Boys 4 x 100
relay team of Will Gavin, Ethan Berberich, Aaron Pommer and Tony Larned
on placing eighth out of 16 school teams at the state meet on
Friday, June 11. In doing so, they ran a time of 44.16 and broke
a Schalmont record for the second time in two weeks.
Relay Team Headed to State
Championships: Congratulations to the Boys 4 x 100
relay team of Will Gavin, Ethan Berberich (pictured competing in
the discus), Aaron Pommer and Tony Larned on qualifying for the
state track championships to be held Friday, June 11, at
Vestal High School, 201 Main St., Vestal. They set a school
record by running a fully-automated time of 44.29. The relay
team and fellow track team members Michelle Cuomo and Isabelle
Borini also performed well at the Class BB sectionals.

Bowlers Take State:
Congratulations to Schalmont High School
10th-grader Natasha Bidwell and 11th-graders Liz Kuhlkin and
Meredith Juers, members of the Section II Girls Bowling Team, on
winning the overall title in the New York State championship on
March 6.
Cheerleaders Take First
Place: Congratulations to
the Schalmont High School Varsity Basketball
Cheerleaders on taking home the first place
trophy at the Bluestreak Cup Championship at
Saratoga High School.

Schalmont's Championship Teams: Schalmont High School sports
teams had a great fall season. Congratulations to the Varsity Football Team
on being the state Class B regional champions, the Boys Varsity Soccer
Team on being the Colonial Council champion, and to the Girls Varsity
Volleyball team on being the Colonial Council champion and the Section II
Class B runner-up.

Marching Band Wins Award at Schenectady Holiday Parade:
Congratulations to the Schalmont Marching Band on receiving
the "Chairman's Youth Award" for their performance at the
Schenectady Holiday Parade on Nov. 21. Justin Godlewski, director of the the marching band, is a first-year
music teacher at Schalmont Middle School.

Tri-M Music Honor Society welcomed 16 new members during the
induction ceremony this October.

Congratulations to the four Schalmont High School students who were selected
to participate in the New York State School Music Association All-State
Festival this December: Sarah Banker, Megan Lesperance, Stacy
Scheffer, and Ben Sponable.

All-State: Congratulations to the seven students
who represented Schalmont High School at the Area All-State
concert held at Saratoga High School this November. The
students included: Angela Bove, Cassandra Armstrong, Chrissy
Volans, Nick Little, Mark Whitman (chorus); Sarah Banker
(band); and Laura Earls (orchestra).

Congratulations to senior Jasyn
DeHart on his selection, from amongst students at 39 area school
districts, as the 2009-10 Outstanding Business Education
Student. He received this honor not only for his academic
achievement, but also for his outstanding citizenship and
positive attitude.

Schalmont Teachers, Students Make Strides For Breast Cancer:
Schalmont teachers, their family members, and members of
the Schalmont High School varsity football, volleyball, and
girls basketball teams as well as the varsity cheerleaders
recently joined 12,000 others for the 2009 Making Strides for
Breast Cancer walk.

Top Golfer:
Congratulations to senior Dave Mastroianni on
shooting 78 for a tie for second place out of 61
golfers at the Class B Sectionals this October. Last
year, he was one of the top nine golfers in all of
Section II Class ABCD.
