Schalmont HS students at a forum about statewide educational technology

Several Schalmont HS students recently participated in a forum about statewide educational technology. Pictured from left to right are (back row) two Mohonasen students, Mrs. Ryder, NYS Regent James Dawson, Ian Cohn, (front row) Ben Fontana, Maithily Chakraborty, and Kristina Strang.

Congratulations to the four Schalmont High School students who were were selected to participate in a recent community forum on the University of the State of New York Statewide Educational Technology Plan.

Students Maithily Chakraborty, Ian Cohn, Ben Fontana, and Kristina Strang were invited to the forum as part of their participation in teacher Karen Ryder's Syracuse University Project Advance (SUPA) public affairs class.

"They learned that their opinions matter," said Ryder "As players in the process, they will help shape technology education for students in the future."

At the forum, the students joined a variety of stakeholders in sharing their opinions about creating goals for education technology and coming up with ways to achieve them. They also learned about the lengthy process involved in making changes to education statewide. Students listened to a talk by James C. Dawson, a member of the NYS Board of Regents, and had an opportunity to be photographed with him (pictured above).
