6/30/10 Who: Mary Jane Scholarship
What:
A merit based scholarship for academically talented Capital Region high school seniors who plan to attend area colleges and universities in the fall.
How: Applications are available in the Guidance office.
When: All students wishing to be considered for the Mary Jane Scholarship must apply on the official application form and have it submitted by June 30, 2010.
Award: The scholarship offers complete financial coverage of college textbooks and supplies for the student’s first two semesters of study. The textbooks and supplies will be provided by Mary Jane Books in Albany, NY.
5/1/10 Who: Schalmont Alumni Reunion Scholarship
What:
For graduating Seniors from Schalmont High School who plan on attending a two or four-year college or trade school.
How: Applications are available in the Guidance office.
When: Completed applications must be returned to the Guidance Office by May 1, 2010.
Award: A one-time monetary award will be given.
5/1/10 Who: Capitol District Counseling Association
What:
Scholarships available to students who are enrolling at a Capital Region undergraduate or graduate institution.
How: Applications are available in the Guidance office.
When: Completed application form and all additional required material must be mailed in ONE COMPLETE PACKAGE postmarked no later than May 1, 2010.
Award: One-time-only $1,000 scholarships.
4/23/10 Who: The Schalmont HS Faculty Award
What:
For a Schalmont senior who is a serious student, an involved community person of positive character, and committed to school. He/she has shared time, energy, and talents through participation in extracurricular activities, clubs, sports, or class activities to make Schalmont High School a better place for all.

4/16/10 Who: The Sandie Stryjek Memorial Scholarship
What:
For a Schalmont senior who has demonstrated a desire to help other people, has overcome adversity to improve his/her life or has been involved in an activity that has a positive impact on his/her life or the lives of others in the capital district, and is pursuing higher education at a two- or four-year college or university, entering a trade school, or joining the military.

Award: $1,000
4/15/10 Who: The Leonard K. Doviak Memorial Scholarship
What:
For Schenectady County seniors, who intend to enroll full-time as a matriculated student in a two- or four-year, degree bearing college or university beginning in the Fall of 2010. Applicant must have earned a high school academic grade point average ranging between 75% and 85%.
How: Applications may be picked up in the guidance office.
When: Completed application packets must be received by Thursday, April 15, 2010.
Award: Two scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded.
4/15/10 Who: The Times Union Communications Scholarship
What:
For Schenectady County seniors, who intend to enroll full-time as a matriculated student in a two- or four-year, degree bearing college or university beginning in the Fall of 2010. Applicant must demonstrate an expressed interest in journalism or another communication related field as well as have completed several volunteer activities over the course of their high school career. Special consideration will be given to applicants that have completed projects that focus on literacy-based initiatives with children under the age of 12.
How: Applications may be picked up in the guidance office.
When: Completed application packets must be received by Thursday, April 15, 2010.
Award: One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded.
4/15/10 Who: The TransTech – Solid Surface Craftsman Skilled Trades Scholarship
What:
For Schenectady County seniors, who intend to enroll full-time as a matriculated student in a two- or four-year, degree bearing college or university beginning in the Fall of 2010. Applicant must demonstrate an expressed interest in a skilled trade and must qualify for the free or reduced lunch program.
How: Applications may be picked up in the guidance office.
When: Completed application packets must be received by Thursday, April 15, 2010.
Award: One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded.
4/9/10 Who: The New York State Society of Professional Engineers’ Capital District Chapter Scholarship
What: For high school seniors who attend an ABET-accredited college or university engineering program.
How: Applications are available in the guidance office or can be obtained by visiting the chapter's Web site http://www.capdistpe.org/AWARDS/Scholarships.htm or by contacting Paul Adel at padel@spectraenv.com.
When: Applications must be submitted by April 9th, 2010.
Award:
Awards of $1,000 and $3,000 are being offered.
4/2/10 Who: Capital District School Boards Association 24th Annual Grace R. McIver Education Award
What: This award will be given to a graduating senior who is planning a career in public education.
How: Applicants for this award should submit a 450-600 word typed essay entitled: “Education – What Can I Contribute” along with the attached coversheet.
When: All essays should be submitted with the attached coversheet by Friday April 2, 2010 to:

4/1/10 Who: Schalmont Dollars for Scholars
What: Six DS scholarships for $500 and four named scholarships ranging from $250 - $1,000.

4/1/10 Who: Zonta International District 2 Young Women in Public Affairs Award
What: The award is given for commitment to, and evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women. The goal is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life. Nominee(s) must be high school seniors.
How: Applications can be picked up in the guidance office.
When: Completed applications must be received by April 1, 2010.
Award: A certificate and monetary award of $400 is presented to the winning candidate in the spring, hopefully at the school’s awards program.
4/1/10 Who: Zonta International District 2 Jean M. Coon Humanitarian Award
What:
The award is given to a female for outstanding community service.
How: Applications may be picked up in the guidance office.
When: Completed application packets must be received by April 1, 2010.
Award:  A certificate and monetary award of $400 in presented to the winning candidate in the spring, hopefully at the school’s awards program.
3/31/10 Who: George Endries/Rotterdam Elks Athletic Scholarship Award
What: Any student in the senior graduating class of a high school, whose father, uncle, or grandfather is or was, at the time of George’s death (10/9/06), an Elk in good standing of the Rotterdam Lodge and is a citizen of the United States of America. Student must also have participated in a team or individual athletic activity/activities throughout high school. Scholarship, athletic participation, personality, leadership, perserverance, resourcefulness, patriotism, general worthiness and financial need are the criteria by which the applicant will be judged.
When: Completed applications must be received on or before March 31, 2010.
Award: Will be in the amount of $1,000 and is for ONE year only.
3/30/10 Who: Silverman Law of Schenectady, NY

3/12/10 Who: The Schalmont Teachers' Association Scholarships
What:
There are three $1,000 scholarships available to eligible graduating seniors.

3/12/10 Who:  First New York Federal Credit Union Scholarship
What: 
For a graduating high school senior planning to attend a two or four year college.  Senior must  be an active volunteer and/or active in the community, as well as being a First New York FCU member in good standing. 
How:  Applications may be picked up in the guidance office.
When:  Completed applications must be received by March 12, 2010
Award:  Three scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded. 
3/6/10 Who: The Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York “Ned Carter” Scholarship
What:
For High School Seniors, graduating in June 2010. The student must be related to or be a Firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York and must reside within New York State. The awards will be presented to those young people who will be pursuing a post secondary career in the Community Service related areas of endeavor at either a two or four year college next year.
How: Applications are online at

3/1/10 Who: The AT&T and BBB Science & Technology Scholarship
What:
For seniors in Upstate NY committed to pursuing a bachelor of science degree at an accredited college or university. Selection will be based on academics, community service, ethics, and leadership.
How: Applications may be picked up in the guidance office.
When: All applications must be postmarked by March 1st, 2010.
Award: 1st place - $3,000, 2nd place - $2,000, 3rd place - $1,000
3/1/10 Who: Rotterdam Lodge 2157 Scholarship
What:
Parent or Grandparent must be a Rotterdam Elk (applications in guidance)
When: Due March 1, 2010
3/1/10 Who: Dorothea Deitz Memorial Scholarship
What: For women students residing in New York State who are planning to major in Physical Education Teacher Education are eligible. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of character, academic achievement, physical education competence, participation in athletics, qualities of leadership, and financial need.
How: Requests for application forms should be made either through your Area DDMS chairperson or from the NYSAHPERD website

What: Recognizes a high school senior who understands and values the limitless possibilities that education can offer.

2/10/10 Who: KFC Colonel’s Scholars
What:
Earn a minimum GPA of 2.75, enroll in a public college or university within their legal state of residence, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, demonstrate financial need
How/When: Online scholarship application will be available from December 1, 2009 to February 10, 2010 at

Award: Up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board.
2/1/10 Who: Phi Delta Kappa Future Educator Scholarship
What:
Available to high school seniors who plan to major in Education.
How/When: Applications may be picked up in the guidance office.

Who: SEFCU Scholarship
What:
Open to all college-bound high school seniors who are SEFCU members. Student must be the primary member on a SEFCU account, and plan to attend a 2- or 4-year college for the first time in the fall of 2010. Applicants will be judged on academic performance, extracurricular, community and volunteer activities, and quality and content of a written essay.

Award: $1,000 and $500 Credit Union Association of New York scholarships and $1,000 SEFCU Smart Sense awards.

What:
Excellence in Academics, Commitment to Service, Passion for Communications
How: Park Scholar Award Application (in guidance office) , essays, resume, three letters of recommendation, and a transcript
When: Apply by January 15, 2010 and have Ithaca College application on file by January 2, 2010
Award: Full cost of tuition, room and board per year (currently at $43,840). Plus stipends for living expenses, books, and a one-time computer purchase of $2,500.
1/15/10 Who: Mensa of Northeastern New York, Education and Research Foundation Scholarships
What:
The only eligibility requirements are that the applicant be enrolled, for the academic year following the award, in a degree program in an accredited American institute of post-secondary education, and be a resident of the area of a participating local group of American Mensa. For the general awards, the applicant need not be a member of Mensa nor qualified for Mensa, and the general awards are unrestricted as to age, race, gender, level of post-secondary education and financial need.

What:
This award honors young women between the ages of 14 and 17 for volunteer action. Volunteer projects can include, but are not limited to, projects that address social problems such as homelessness, violence, drug abuse, illiteracy, disadvantaged youth, discrimination, AIDS, terminal illness, elder care and pollution.
How: Pick up an application in the guidance office.
When: All applications must be received by December 1, 2009. Applications may not be copied, please use original applications only.
Award: The local winner will receive a $300 cash award. In addition, the organization in which she volunteers will receive $200.
