With candlelight and words
of inspiration, the National Honor Society welcomed 24 new members to the Schalmont High School
Chapter in November. Current members, parents, teachers, and
administrators were gathered to honor the inductees and
to watch them receive their NHS pins.
NHS President Robert White
served as master of ceremonies. Members chose Craig
Sargent, a social studies teacher who retired from
Schalmont Middle School last year, to deliver
the induction ceremony speech. Following Sargent's speech, NHS
adviser Wendy Stearns handed each inductee his or her pin,
and current NHS members spoke about the academic success and
extracurricular activities that qualified each inductee for
membership.
The ceremony concluded with current and new
members reciting the NHS induction pledge:
I
pledge to maintain my high scholastic standing,
To hold as fundamental and worthy
An untarnished character,
To endeavor intelligently and courageously,
To be a leader,
To give of myself freely in service of others;
In so doing, I shall prove myself worthy
of a place in the National Honor Society.
