Dec. 22, 2011—Congratulations to Jefferson Elementary School librarian Mary Shands on earning
National Board Certification, which is considered the "gold
standard" for teaching excellence.
National Board Certification was
created and is administered by the National Board for
Professional Teaching Standards. It is a voluntary system to
certify teachers who meet the rigorous standards through
intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer
review.
Shands decided to take on the challenge to make sure she
was doing the best job possible for all students. It took her
three years to complete the program.
