Runners have a ghoulish good time raising money for charity

Oct. 31, 2011—Staff dressed in costume helped scare up some fun this Halloween during Schalmont Middle School's annual "Ghostly Gallop for Good" charity run on Oct. 28.

Special appearances were made by the Grinch, Yoda, a gorilla and a witch who wandered the course. In addition to seeing staff in costume and raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, fifth- through eighth-graders were treated to ghostly music, a great physical work-out, snacks and prizes.

Students raised more than $2,600 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation this year. The organization grants wishes for children and teens who are seriously ill. Last year, Schalmont’s generosity helped grant a child's wish to go on a family vacation to visit his grandparents in Sanibel Island, Florida.

For more information on the Northeast New York Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, go to www.neny.wish.org, neny@neny.wish.org, or contact them at (518) 782-4673.
