Sept. 29, 2011—Schalmont
residents will have until Oct. 21, instead of Sep. 30, to pay
their school taxes without penalty or interest now that
Superintendent Dr. Valerie Kelsey's request for an extension has
been granted by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
"We hope our residents will find some comfort
knowing they have a little more time to pay their school taxes,"
said Kelsey.
On Monday, school board members authorized the
superintendent to request a 21-day extension as provided by
Section 925-a of the Real Property Tax Law because severe
flooding has impacted a number of families throughout the
district.
Residents may mail their payments to the district
office (4 Sabre Drive, Schenectady, NY 12306) or stop by
weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is also a drop-box for
payments made afterhours. Any tax bill payments received after
Oct. 21 will be subject to interest or penalty.
"This is just another example of the many ways
we're trying to help our residents get through this unbelievably
difficult time," said Kelsey.
The school community has been instrumental in the
flood relief and recovery efforts, from collecting, sorting
and distributing donations and supplies to scraping mud off
floors and holding a variety of fundraisers.
The community is asked to rally together once
again during homecoming on Oct. 15. Two additional events have
been planned this year to benefit Rotterdam Junction flood
victims—a
5K Run/1K Walk & Kid's Run and an all-day bottle drive.
